On June 20, 2008,
“Old Faith World” Old Believer icons exhibition was introduced at A. Bleshchunov Municipal Private Collections Museum. The exhibition was organized by the local Old Believers community, Odessa City Council Culture and Arts Affairs Dept, “Sources Revival” Regional Social Organization, Odessa National University Ukrainian Archeology and Ethnology Dept.
The organizers of the exhibition attempted to unfurl the curtain covering the history and original culture of the Old Believers being the keepers of the Russian Orthodoxy ancient tradition.
At the time being, there are 25 000 Old Believers living in Odessa region and 14 congregations of the Russia Orthodox Old Believer Church functioning. As it is emphasized by the scientists specializing in ethnology, they managed to save many complexes of ideology and practice, including special singing, icon painting canons, ancient printed and hand-written books, specific etiquette norms etc.
“Old Faith Icon” exhibition will be open until July 20.
